- What is the difference between a PROVISIONAL and a UTILITY patent?
- Provisional provides temporary protection and sets a time line in place for an inventors proposed product. A utility patent is formal approval by the USPTO of an inventors submission. A Utility patent is good for twenty years as long as renewal payments are made.
